Ambush Range¶
v.1.2.0.0

Overview¶
Marks the high and low of a quiet time window - the pre-market or the open - and signals the first close beyond them. The range is used only when it was flat enough, so a wide, noisy morning does not produce a breakout.
How it works¶
- From Flat Start Time to Flat End Time the indicator records the high and low (bars closing after the start and no later than the end).
- After the window, the range is armed if its width is within Flat Range Threshold % of its low.
- The first close above the high is a long breakout (▲), below the low a short one (▼).
- The levels stay until the trading session ends; a new session starts afresh.
Parameters¶
| Parameter | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Flat Start Time | 09:00 | Session first start time |
| Flat End Time | 09:15 | Session last end time |
| Flat Range Threshold (%) | 0.5 | The widest the range may be, as a percentage of its low, to be traded; a wider one is skipped for the day. |
For strategies¶
| Value | Meaning |
|---|---|
| HighFlat / LowFlat | The armed range's high and low. |
| Trend | 1 a breakout up, -1 down. |
Version history¶
v.1.2.0.0 - October 2026
- Changed: resets with each trading session, not at midnight; windows over midnight work; bars by their close time.
- Changed: drawn directly on the chart - no drawing objects left on it.
